As day shifted into night over Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, many students were preparing for dinner, finishing off assignment, or even starting them. Free time at Hogwarts was always a sought after period to catch up with piling up assignment and to just relax. The stress of school seemed to be at every turn and it was the nights filled with good food and friends that many people used to refuel themselves. The feasts were enough to make any mad man a happy camper and the company of fellow housemates was just the icing on the cake. In many ways it was like a large extended family gathering. On that particular night the school was buzzing. Much could be said about the recent social activities at Hogwarts. Full mouths couldn’t even contain the excitement of the word as the Great Hall held a humming of activity within its walls.
At the Gryffindor table there seemed to be less activity than usual, however. Though it was still loud and still a bit obnoxious with the likes of James Potter and his fellow friends, the table still held one rather notable absence. The barking laugh of Sirius Black had not been heard for hours. His cheeky jokes and playful antics had not been felt by the Gryffindor table, nor had any food been thrown over at the Slytherin table. All in all, it was oddly calm for a Hogwarts dinner. The question on many people’s minds was where the mischievous Sirius Black was and when was he going to make his entrance.
Several floors beyond that of the Great Hall, a mass of black hair covered the top of a desk. The face beneath it was in a state of utter boredom that was verging on a bit of insanity. A small groan escaped his lips as he turned his head to the side and stared up at the clock. The room was quiet except for the ticking of the clock on the wall at the front of the room. To someone who hadn’t been in detention for hours they wouldn’t have noticed it, but by this point it was the only thing Sirius Black could notice, and it was quite literally driving him mad.
Sirius had a bit of a habit of landing himself in detention. He probably spent more time in that room than he did in any class. His name was even carved into the desk he had been sitting in at that moment. Really a case could be made that his second home was detention.
He let out an exaggerated sigh as he stared at the clock. It was as if its face were mocking him. Were the hands even moving at this point? Time was irrelevant during detention. Professors kept a person until they had learned their lesson and by Sirius’ seventh year and probably thousandth’s time in detention there was no denying that this was one lesson he would never fully learn. Technically, the professor could keep him there forever and at this point Sirius was sure he would. The particular professor who was monitoring this detention was wise to Sirius’ ways and had taken his wand upon arrival. He had locked it away in his desk and forced Sirius to sit still for what seemed like a life time. Sirius didn’t do well in confined spaces. He wasn’t one to stand still for even a moment and here he was sitting in a room unable to leave and his wand was held hostage. They were getting wise at Hogwarts which was quite unfortunate for him.
There was a loud grunt from the front of the room and Sirius flicked his eyes at the overly large professor at the front. He was bloody sleeping! Was he trying to mock Sirius now? He and the clock were probably in on it together. Sirius glared up at the clock before putting his head back into his arm. He began staring back at the side wall where he had been in the process of counting bricks.
Here was where it all was going to end. Sirius, starving, wandless, and bored; a hostage to detention. What a horrible way to go. He wouldn’t wish it on his worst enemy…okay so maybe he would. James had been give him a good funeral because at that moment his future was bleak. It was sure to be the first death by detention.[/blockquote]

Whose silent words Rise up in betrayal We will rise up in betrayal Nero was practically dragging the two first years down the hall. Their fight had brought almost a complete halt to dinner tonight. Their robes disheveled and their hair messed up they looked like they had just had the fight of their lives. He pushed open the door with his shoe and pushed them in one by one. He was angry that his own dinner which had turned out peaceful and had started well in the the company of a few Ravenclaw girls he had an eye on when these two went at it and he had to take the administrative role as a Prefect. He pushed one of the students down in a desk in the far corner of the room and walked the other to the farther corner.
"You both should know better, this isn't some typical school where you get away with these things. Points will be taken from both houses..." he said glaring at the young Ravenclaw "No thanks to both of your inability to behave" He didn't care for the story, something about an insult from the Slytherin boy he had brought with him, some tosh about bloodlines. Always the bloodlines... Makes me thankful I'm pureblood Nero thought to himself, although he'd never admit it out loud.
Nero walked to the front of the classroom where the professor was sitting quietly and passed Sirius Black on his way. He glanced at the fellow student and could imagine what he had done to earn this particular detention. He smiled and shook his head as he passed him to speak with the professor, except upon reaching the desk Nero found the professor asleep. Fine example your setting. Sleeping in your own classroom... Nero though smugly. He picked up the heaviest book and dropped it on the desk startling the professor awake. He didn't have any room for caring about those who were slackards, or gluttons, which this professor seemed to be both.
"Two more for detention for fighting, Keep them as long as you see fit." he said glaring at the Ravenclaw again. He didn't care if he ever saw the boy again, making his house look bad, not only for starting a fight, but losing one too. Sure Ravenclaws were known for their minds, but they weren't soft like the large majority of Hufflepuff. Nero glanced up at the clock and realized dinner was soon to be coming to an end. Noticing no plate from where the professor ate, Nero had an idea to try and soften the blow for his House and the possibility of saving some points. "Professor, dinner will be done soon. I can watch over them till ample time has passed, I am a Prefect after all. Go and get yourself a good meal." he said with the warmest smile and tone he could muster.
The professor looked at him thoughtfully if not confused, and nodded his head. "Indeed, I am rather hungry..." he said. "Just keep this one here longer. And dont give him this till time is up." He said taking a wand out of his desk and setting it down. The professor stood up and left the room. "Well... that went better then expected. If it were up to me, the two of you would spend the night in the Forbidden Forest." He said addressing the two younger years. Taking a seat and opening up a book on the desk. He glanced up at Sirius who still had his head on the desk and could tell the fellow student was suffering. "So Sirius, what are you in for this time?" he said smiling in a friendly tone.
He and Sirius had never really been friends, but by far from enemies. Everyone knew who he was, and his reputation the preceded him. And mostly everyone knew who Nero was, but only because of his status as a Prefect. He wasn't really a harsh one, just when punishment had to be dealt out, or when it concerned his house, that's when he put a heavy boot down.

It was funny how easily one could break the rules if they really tried. Actually, to Sirius Black he didn’t have to try it just sort of happened. He thought Hogwarts really made it too easy with the curfew and the restricted sections and floors. Honestly, by prohibiting their use it only made certain students want to use them all the more. Sirius had never been one to follow the rules. It wasn’t in his nature to, in his words, be a follower of anything. He led by poor example in many ways and that continued in the way he acted with regards to authority. He did not just break rules, he repelled them. Sometimes he went out of his way to break them just because he was bored. His problem with authority had given him a reputation and had more often than not landed him right in the very seat he was sitting in at that precise moment.
Sirius began tapping the table lightly in rhythm with the slow moving clock. It was all he could do to keep what was left of his sanity. It was funny how time moved. When one wanted it they could never get enough and when one wanted nothing more than to move on time would not let go. At this point in the evening it took everything Sirius could muster not to get up, grab the clock, and slam it against the nearest wall. Actually, once he got out of this awful prison he was sure to do just that and more. The scale he was thinking was school wide. What could a school do without clocks, wristwatches, and timers? A ghost of a devilish smirk formed on his lips just as the doors swung open.
Sirius paid little attention to what was happening. It was probably just another one of the prefects on a power trip. Not all the prefects were as bad as that but there were a couple, Evans in particular that liked to bust anyone’s balls who breathed wrong. Sirius always wondered how someone could suck the fun out of every moment they were in. He would have to ask Evans when he got out---if he got out. He vaguely watched as two boys took their respective seats and listened to an exchange of words.
"Just keep this one here longer. And dont give him this till time is up."
Sirius heard the wheezy voice of the old professor say. Sirius turned his head to look over at the front. He spotted the Ravenclaw Prefect, Nero standing there trying to look authoritative. He put on the biggest, cheesiest, and sweet smile he could and then gave a little wave in their direction. The professor left quickly to get some food and he was left with the two boys and Nero.
Sirius had never gone out of his way to talk to Nero, though he had never gone out of his way to taunt him either. When the two ran across one another they always had a good spirited exchange. Sirius always knew Nero through Remus and their prefect meetings, or whatever it was they did. While Sirius didn’t like authority he could always get by with Nero.
"So Sirius, what are you in for this time?"
His smile flew onto his lips as quickly as the words came out of Nero’s mouth. It was a smile that told more than any words ever could. He tilted his head before letting out a small laugh while shaking his head.
“Don’t know what you mean Tiberius,” he said with a coy laugh, “ I’m here because I want to be.”
The sarcasm was thick and heavy with each syllable, “I don’t know about you but I just LOVE wasting my evenings in a room that smells like homework and sweat. “
Sirius was never one to give away too much, especially when it came to his less than reputable antics. He never implemented himself or his friends even though everyone knew who was responsible for the petty crime. Really one only had to look at his face to see what kind of smile he was wearing to know for certain if he was responsible. Nine time out of ten it was Sirius as that devilish smirk seemed to be tattooed on his face for life. [/blockquote]

Whose silent words Rise up in betrayal We will rise up in betrayal “Don’t know what you mean Tiberius, I’m here because I want to be.”Sirius spoke with obvious sarcasm. In Nero's younger years, he had been in detention a few times, but tried to either avoid trouble all together or get away with as much as he could. The few times that Nero had managed to land himself in detention it was completely miserable. “I don’t know about you but I just LOVE wasting my evenings in a room that smells like homework and sweat."Nero laughed to himself at Sirius' comment. "Never one to give away a good story for free as usual." Nero replied. He looked at the other two students and pointed from his eyes to theirs and waved them off with his hand. As the door closed Nero tossed Sirius his wand back. Taking a students wand as old as Nero or Sirius was, felt like a pretty big insult. "Maybe a retelling of your antics in exchange for the return of that." He said raising an eyebrow. Nero wasn't your traditional Prefect. Most were on a power trip the size of a Forest Troll, and Nero couldn't stand the type. The Prefect before him was like that, and he made sure to NOT follow his example. When someone needed a foot planted down, sometimes on their chest, Nero could do that. But for the most part, he would let people off pretty easy, unless they gave him major attitude. Sirius had never given him a reason to be cross or anything so he had always gone pretty easy with him. "Everyone knows you Gryffidor's have all the fun. Like the time you and your group set the fire breathing slugs loose on the grounds." Nero said with a chuckle. There were scorch marks everywhere... "At least let me have some of the fun by retelling a tale or two." he said leaning back in the chair and propping his feet up on the desk. Nero secretly envied Sirius and his mates and all the fun they had. Ravenclaw had its fun, just no where near on the scale of what the Gryffindor House had.

Detention came almost too naturally to Sirius Black. Half the time Professors just pulled him out of a crowd as he walked down the hall and accused him of a crime he had no way left evidence of being involved. He had built up quite a reputation for himself and that reputation extended to the faculty. Professors were wise to Sirius’ antics but that did not deter the seventh year from acting out just as he had always done. Rules were there so he could break them and while it usually ended up in detention he would rather go out with a bang than sit around idly until the end of term.
Sirius looked at Nero who had taken up a seat where the old professor had been sitting before. Of all the prefects, excluding Remus, he was probably Sirius’ best bet of getting away with something. Nero, although a Ravenclaw, seemed to have a slight understanding for Sirius’ ways. Though he would never go against the responsibilities of his title, Sirius always felt as though the two seventh years had a sort of understanding between one another. It was as basic as ‘you don’t bug me and I won’t bug you’. Sirius wondered if Remus had talked to Nero about the Marauders antics or perhaps he felt sorry that the likes of Lily Evans were always down their throats that he back off. Either way, Sirius was okay with it.
Nero spoke about Sirius never giving away details of his adventures and Sirius gave a slight nod. Despite his zealous personality, Sirius knew when some things were better left unsaid. Although Nero didn’t seem to be a crazed Prefect on a power trip, Sirius wasn’t stupid enough to say something that would land him straight back in the very chair he sat in the next day. Nero tossed him his wand, which Sirius caught with ease. His fingers curled around the wand as wicked grin swiped across his face.
“Why do anything for free if you know you’re good enough to do it for profit?” he said, chuckling to himself as he twisted his wand between his fingers. He tapped the wand on his desk, letting small sparks shoot from the end. It was good to have it back where it belonged.
His wand had been the only thing really keeping him in the detention room. He would have hatched an escape plan long before Nero and the other two students arrived. Now that it was within his grasp he really could walk out the doors without so much as a word to Nero. But he wasn’t that cruel and despite the fact being in the detention room messed with his head a bit too much he couldn’t resist the tale.
Sirius smirked at Nero’s proposition. Again, this Ravenclaw surprised him at his near readiness to break the rules.
"Everyone knows you Gryffindor's have all the fun. Like the time you and your group set the fire breathing slugs loose on the grounds. At least let me have some of the fun by retelling a tale or two."
Sirius smiled at the memory of the slugs, “Oh yeah,” he sighed, “That was a good one...You know if I wasn’t mistaken I might think that underneath that nice and shiny Prefect’s badge lay a troublemaker Tiberius.”
Nero was definitely not like Lily Evans and those others who ran their life by the book. He hid it well really for he could be considered a friend to either side of the book. Those like Evans loved him for his seemingly strict ways and those like Sirius and the Marauders found him to be a decent guy who wasn’ as bookish as his house proclaimed.
He raised his wand directly at Nero before stopping to think of his next move, “Well I’ve got to see if the merchandise isn’t faulty,” he said with a devilish grin and tone.
He moved his wand swiftly as he flicked it towards the teacher’s desk that was in front of Nero. The desk began to shake slightly. The drawers shook slightly open and the legs began to squeak across the floor. In a second the desk was flying upwards towards the ceiling. The various items that had sat in and on top of the table floated with the desk as if glued to their spot. It looked as if the desk would continue to float, weightless to the skies until it stopped and moved into place, upside down in the ceiling directly above its rightful place on the floor.
Suddenly the desks around the room began to shake in the same manner as the professor’s desk as Sirius wand moved over the rest of the room. The two boys yelped and jumped from their places as they watched the scene unfold around them. One by one the desks squeaked and collided their ways onto the ceiling until it was as if the classroom had been turned on its head.
Sirius nodded and shrugged before standing up off of his own chair, “It seems it works well enough,” he said with a devilish smirk to his Ravenclaw counterpart, “I guess I can let you in on the story,” he added genuinely. He had always anticipated on telling Tiberius. Sirius knew when to keep a secret but that didn’t mean he found it easy in keeping one, especially when it involved himself.
Suddenly Nero’s chair started to shake. Sirius crossed his arms as he looked thoughtfully at the Prefect, “You might want to stand up...”
This mischievous Gryffindor had no qualms about setting havoc on the school no matter who was in the audience. [/blockquote]
