Take me for what I am For Who I'm Meant To Be And if you Give a Damn Take Me Baby or Leave Me -------------------------------------------------------- It was another day of class. All the students in overcrowded hallways not even having time to whisper and gossip. They were all bustling and trampling each other to get to their classes. One little first year ran and nudged Marly but didn’t even give a sorry or any sort of apology. ‘Got to love our next generation’ she thought to herself sarcastically as she shook her head. This would be the future of Hogwarts, then again it was too early to judge. A lot changed to first years after their first year. But still, everyone had to calm down. If everyone just walked, or at least fast walked, they wouldn’t even have to be worried about being late. But now that everyone was basically running it made the hallways impossible to go through. Marlene started to walk to her next class. History of Magic, gross. She had no idea how anyone paid attention in that subject, why did they need to know the History of Magic? Why can’t they just know how to do magic? She shook her head never understanding the point of it and she probably never would be someone to understand it.
She walked in her Ravenclaw robes, her dark brown hair was down and fell to her mid-back. Honestly, she was looking for any excuse to get out of class. But she wouldn’t find one, she was too scared for her grades. People always had to force her to take risks. Someone would surely laugh if they found out the sweet girl never ditched a day of class in her life. She never even pretended to be sick! She knew everyone ditched school at least one day but why couldn’t she? She was trying to be more rebellious, wasn’t she? Maybe she was scared of getting caught. Maybe she just needed to follow someone’s example to be able to complete this task. She scanned the hallways for someone who would help her ditch. She was determined to go through with it this time. And once Marly had her mind set on something she did it. Even if she did get caught she knew how to be manipulative and had her smooth way of talking herself out of trouble. She could think of intelligent and creative excuses. Even though she may not want to go with the creative stuff because they tended to be more unbelievable.
Suddenly her eyes landed on the one and only Sirius Black. She smiled immediately, this marauder would be the perfect ditching buddy. She was pretty sure he had more absences in his classes that the ingrediants in the potions closet. She noticed him leisurely walking then he suddenly seemed to be looking for a class. Then Marlene noticed a Professor follow him. Marlene didn’t want to lose her chance, she started to walk in that direction while getting a questioning look from some Ravenclaws in her class. But she ignored them determined to finally do something like ditch a class.
Marlene stopped where she was immediately upon noticing Sirius got out of trouble and she had a feeling of where he was. Now how to get her out of this. She saw a bathroom all the way down. She started to head there, keeping it in sight so the Professor simply walked by her. Or maybe it was the fact that she didn’t cause as much trouble as others in the school. She glanced behind her to notice the Professor out of sight. She walked straight to the Trophy room and smirked as she heard him talk to himself about a trophy. “Talking to yourself again, Sirius?” she asked him teasingly with a small smile.
His comment did make sense. Why would anyone get a trophy for being intelligent? Intelligence wasn’t a talent, it was a characteristic. She noticed him climb upon the case. She watched as he pulled off the label that said Mundungus Fletcher and poured some sort of content into it. She gave a small chuckle and shook her head amused with him. She walked to the tropy case trying to figure out how to get up. She put a foot on the empty space of a shelf and climbed each shelf like a step on a ladder. But she lost her footing. She had on foot dangling with the other firmly on the ground while her two hands her holding the top tight. She managed to pull herself up but of course a few trophies fell. She gave a small laugh. “Wow, that was so smooth.” She commented sarcastically as she was now sitting next to her friend on the shelf.

Raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways
The liquid sat in the cup of the trophy as if it had belonged there. Sirius had always thought that liquor always went well with a trophy…especially since where there was liquor there was usually party to go along with it. The room seemed to glitter with all the trophies in their glass cases. It seemed that he was going to need a lot more alcohol before all of these awards could have their rightful and deserved drink. Sirius was sure he was never actually going to get his name on one of these things. He wasn’t particularly athletic, he wasn’t in any way academic, nor was he particularly good at service work for the school. It wasn’t that he was not athletic or stupid, it was just he never tried. He did not have the drive one needed for Quidditch nor did he have the patience for books. Really, he spent most of his time partying and chasing girls, which in his mind should count as a sport all on its own. Now that would be his game. He was the master when it came to partying and girls and it was a lot harder than it looked. Sure, he slacked in the areas where actual trophies were concerned but he knew that if there was a Party Master trophy he would win it hands down.
Before the liquid in the cup could touch his lips, Sirius heard a voice from below. Marlene McKinnon, a sixth year Ravenclaw student stood near the doorway of the room mocking Sirius. He quirked an eyebrow at Marlene, who had always been one of Sirius’ few girl friends he had never hooked up with. She was always a good laugh, even if it required some coaxing to get her out of her shell.
“Yeah, and I was having a smashing conversation until someone interrupted,” he teased as he watched Marlene walk towards the case he was sitting on top of.
He watched with a passive interest as Marlene tried to scale the case. She managed to do it but with some difficulty. Sirius couldn’t help but let out a barking laugh as the girl pulled herself up and laughed at herself. He looked sideways at her as she situated herself beside him on the top of the trophy case. Marlene had never been one of the most suave of people nor had she really ever been one to be seen sitting on top of a trophy case in the middle of the day.
“Wow, that was so smooth.”
“So smooth, I was about to ask if you were trying to flirt with me again McKinnon,” he said jokingly with a wink.
Marlene was probably one of the last people he would have expected to find him there. Sure, she was always game to hang out with the Marauders and fool around but she always needed that extra push to be up to their standards of insanity. While Sirius was more expected to not be in class, Marlene was expected to be there, front row, vigorously scribbling down notes.
“So did you get lost on your way to Class or could you just not stay away from my beautiful face for too long?” he added with a joke as he took a swig from a the cup, “ Cheers!”
He offered it over to Marlene, still wondering if she was actually lost, which was weird considering she was a Ravenclaw. Wasn’t their mothership the classroom? He shrugged off the thought and awaited Marlene’s response.[/blockquote]

Take me for what I am For Who I'm Meant To Be And if you Give a Damn Take Me Baby or Leave Me -------------------------------------------------------- Marlene smiled amused at the older boy’s comment. Sirius was one of the only people who could get her to smile at the worst of times. Not like she was having an actual bad day. There were bad things in her life but they weren’t as intense as they were other times. But memories of those bad things still crowded her mind, haunting every move she makes. Somehow everything she did reminded her of her cousin. But she had to get her mind off it, it was the only way for her to deal with it, to ignore it. Because talking about it caused too much pain, and it wasn’t like people cared about her life anyways. They just pretended to care. But she knew people were vain. They only cared for themselves, as long as they were doing well life was just perfect. But maybe she had low expectations of the society. She knew that there were some people who would care about how Marlene felt and would want her to be happy. There were people who would comfort her and tell her everything would be okay. Who actually wanted to know about her life. It was a shame there was a minority of people like that.
She snapped out of her thoughts. “I am sincerely sorry to interrupt your conversation. I hope you find it in yourself to forgive me and my interrupting ways.” She said teasingly with a smile, with just a bit of noblush when he flirted with her. Probably because she spent so much time blushing during their early friendship when she was unaware of how flirting was a second language to him like how sarcasm could be her second language.
Marlene gave a small chuckle at his flirting comment. Marlene wasn’t someone who flirted much. If she ever attempted with a guy she liked she would end up babbling and blushing throughout the whole time. Making herself seem like an idiot. “How did you know?” she asked with heavy sarcasm, playfulness clear in her eyes as she did so. He was one of the few people who brought out her playful side. He would be perfect for this whole ditching for the first time situation. He would probably keep her mind off the whole paranoia of getting caught.
Sirius asked why she was there. She wondered if she should mention that she never ditched before or if she wanted to act as if she always ditched. As she thought about how to act upon this Sirius offered her a sip from his cup. She could already tell there was liquor in it. Once again, it reminded her about how many reckless things she had never done. She was sixteen and she never even had any liquor. She gave a nod “You mind?” she asked motioning to the cup wondering if he would mind if she drank out of the same cup. Even though Sirius didn’t seem like a germaphobe. Before even getting an answer she got a small sip that burned her throat a bit. She needed to be sure to avoid having too much. She didn’t know how she would act drunk and she had no desire to find out. Not at this moment in time.
“Of course Sirius. How could I live without seeing your face at least once every day. Your face is the sun, supplying me with life.” She said sarcastically with a teasing smile. The comment came naturally to her, just like how sarcasm did. Sirius was used to her sarcasm, it was the most predictable thing about her. She shook her head amused. “In all honesty, I am sixteen and I have never ditched school a day in my life. And what better way to do it than to spend my time ditching with the one and only Sirius Black. Plus, I need a distraction.” She said, flattering could help her case on getting Sirius to help her ditch and keep her out of trouble. And it was true; Sirius did a great job distracting her from life.

Raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways
The room glittered around them, making for a rather romantic setting. It was too bad that the relationship between Marlene and Sirius was nothing more than plutonic. Sirius wasn’t going to lie, the trophy room would have been a prime spot to hook up in. The girls would swoon at the romantic scenary while Sirius would find the relative seclusion quite appealing. Marlene and Sirius while playful at best had never ventured outside of friendly flirtation. It was odd for Sirius to remain in that kind of limbo but as the two had known each other for so long it became more and more the norm for him. He wasn’t going to lie, Marlene had always been attractive and in his head he would probably jump at the chance for a drunken hook up he wasn’t totally sure he could actually. They were friends and while she was a hot female friend he wasn’t convinced they were ever going to have a little blip in that kind of relationship.
“Oh I don’t know Mckinnon,” he said sarcastically while shaking his head, “That was one hurt I don’t know if I can overcome.”
He tried to look solemn but fail miserably as he wasn’t able to contain his cheeky grin. With his free hand he wrapped it around Marlene’s shoulders and gave her a friendly squeeze. Sometimes their conversations got to a point where sarcasm was more normal that regular speech.
Sirius swung his legs up and down slightly from their raised position on top of the trophy case. He took another swig from the cup, liking the feel of drinking from it. It seemed like this would be the only action this kind of cup would ever get considering what it was usually used for. The Ravenclaws that seemed to have racked up this award didn’t seem the celebratory type...at least not what Sirius called a celebration. He smirked over at Marlene who had never really been much for the partier herself. While it was true Sirius had taken and invited her to a fair number of parties in the past he had never recalled her getting too out of control. Perhaps it was the house stereotype in her or perhaps she just had more control than most. Either way, Sirius was one for always pushing boundaries and if Marlene was willing he would push her as far as she would go.
It was slightly shocking to see that Marlene accepted his offer of the cup and took a small sip of her own. Maybe he had caught her on an off day or perhaps he had pegged her wrong all along. She had always been on the straight and narrow, very much like Lily Evans but never able to achieve that level of annoying. For that Sirius was thankful for he could really only take one girl busting his balls for every little thing.
He chuckled as she handed back to trophy, “What a baby gulp McKinnon,” he teased, “My grandmother could do better and she’s been dead for years!”
“Of course Sirius. How could I live without seeing your face at least once every day. Your face is the sun, supplying me with life.”
“A question that haunts us all McKinnon,” he added just as sarcastically as he barked a laugh.
He took another swig out of the cup that burned his throat in a familiar way. Sirius had always been a bit of a partier. He liked a drink as much as the next guy but he was not in any way dependent upon it for a good time. While intoxication followed him around more so than the average student Sirius didn’t usually wake up in the morning thinking he would be drunk by noon. This was territory for a whole new demon and by all accounts Sirius had too many to make room for that one. He would leave it for Mundungus Fletcher who always seemed good for a drink at any time of the day. Sirius liked to go with the flow and whatever came his way he was prepared for. He listened as Marlene explained her situation. By all accounts it wasn’t that surprising for him to hear, though it did not make it any more familiar to him.
“Oh I can think of a lot of things that will distract us,” Sirius said with a suggestive smirk and wink.
Sirius was playing around of course but he was never opposed to that kind of distraction. He was a flirt by nature. He just couldn’t help himself no matter who the girl was. He mulled over what Marlene had said again and again in his mind and then continued to speak.
“I’ve ditched so much that by now I think teachers would be more shocked if I actually made it to class,” he said, “ In all fairness I’m doing them a favour by staying away---less of a chance of a heart attack.” He smiled, “ Now I need to teach you the fine art of skipping. Hey- it’s kind of like a class, except not lame and if you put your hand up I may have to smack it.”
He laughed; partly at himself and partly at Marlene’s revelation. He took another swig from the cup before passing it back to Marlene. It was more of a forceful handing as he didn’t give her enough time to refuse, “Come on, it puts hair on your chest,” he said with a wink.
He looked at Marlene pointedly as if he were a professor instructing a student, “It’s lesson one in this amazing craft. Let’s see what you’ve got Skipping Virgin.” He added laughing the entire time. [/blockquote]

Take me for what I am For Who I'm Meant To Be And if you Give a Damn Take Me Baby or Leave Me -------------------------------------------------------- Marlene noticed as the room started to glitter. She knew that if any other girl was here with Sirius Black they would probably pass out. Just because most girls got a heart attack from the thought of being in a romantic situation with Sirius. But not Marlene, she didn’t know why. It was just hard for her to date friends because of how awkward it would be after a break up. It was weird, she never really saw Sirius as more than a friend, girls usually gave her questioning looks upon hearing that but it was very much the truth. She gave a small smile at his reply. She felt his hand give her shoulder a friendly squeeze, so his arm was wrapped behind her. When she first met Sirius she would’ve been blushing insanely but now she was used to it from him. He would always give her flirty comments and these gestures which would cause her to blush like crazy. But now it was in the norm for their friendship. She knew that was just how Sirius acted around girls, so she treated it as if it was nothing. Like just a friendly gesture to show that he cared for her friendship.
Marlene started to swing her legs back and forth as she looked down to the ground, the trophy case wasn’t as high off the ground as she perceived it to be. She glanced at Sirius as she noticed he was drinking more from the cup. “Don’t drink too much. I don’t want to have to carry you back to your dorm when you pass out.” She said teasingly but also partly serious. She didn’t want to have to worry about taking care of a drunken Sirius to keep the two of them out of trouble. Sirius being drunk on the school grounds could get him into loads of trouble. Then Marlene, merely just being there could be in trouble for ditching, drinking that little sip, and letting Sirius drink. She didn’t mind if he did, she just didn’t want them to get in too much trouble. Because her parents would surely find out and she would have more regulations put on her home life than there already was. She had to maintain that perfect child status to be able to get the freedom she thirsted for.
She smiled at his sarcasm. “Right? I stay up all night just thinking about that.” She said sarcastically with a small laugh. As if she would spend all night thinking of that. But if she said it without sarcasm people may believe it to be true, she had been quite tired lately. Mostly from thinking about her cousins. What signs did she show that she was going to join the Death Eaters. What Marlene would say to her if she saw her again. Then there were the nightmares involved in the whole situation. The nightmares that kept her up at night and haunted her every move. The ones she couldn’t escape no matter how hard she tried.
She was snapped out of her thoughts at his next comment which caused her to give out a small laugh. “Absolutely not.” She told him with a small smile as she shook her head amused. She knew he was only joking of course. Making those types of suggestions were his type of thing and she was well aware of that. It was his personality, to flirt with every female. But Marlene wondered if he would actually do it if she wanted to. She shook that thought away, she would rather not think of that. She didn’t have feelings for Sirius in that way so she would never let it happen.
Marlene gave a laugh at what he was saying. Of course it wasn’t hard to believe, it was Sirius Black they were talking about. “You’re right. It’s a good thing you ditch. I would feel bad for a teacher that had to deal with you in class.” She said teasingly. She didn’t mean it in a rude way, but Sirius did seem like someone who gave his teachers a hard time. Not only did he seem like it. It was probably true. Marlene could imagine Sirius mocking a teacher and pranking them during a class. She still had yet to figure out why anyone would ever take a job like teaching. It meant they would have to deal with students like Sirius. Marlene shuddered at the thought, she would never be a teacher no matter how much she was paid. She smirked at his statement about it being a class but not raising her hand. “I think I am liking this class already. As long as you don’t assign any homework assignments, tests, or projects.” She said playing along with the whole idea of it being an actual class.
She sighed as he basically forced the cup in her hand. “Okay, I will drink more. Only if you promise not to take advantage of a poor sweet drunk Ravenclaw.” She told him sternly with a small smile. She knew that she could trust him, maybe… She pulled the cup to her lips and took a couple of gulps. She put the cup down as she got a burning sensation in her throat. She gave a small cough and smiled. “That’s actually really good.” She said glancing down at the cup considering whether or not to take another drink. She decided against it as she handed it back to him. She still needed to have some rational thinking in her mind.
She rolled her eyes amused at the look he gave her. As if he was one of her professors. Sirius being a professor is a thought she just couldn’t get over. It would be way too amusing. She gave a laugh at the nickname he used for her. “What shall I call you during these lessons? Skipping whore or Master Skip?” she asked with a smirk.

Raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways
Ditching class came naturally to Sirius Black. Though it was an old habit, he did not make it as if he was a nonexistent to the Professors as he felt that would just be way too easy of a year for them. No, he did go to class on occasion and each time it was an unforgettable affair. If not stunned by the appearance of the mischievous Gryffindor, teachers were subject to the constant witty remarks, pranks, pestering, and general naughtiness that followed Sirius and the Marauders on a regular basis. It got to a point where in fifth year he had forced a professor to take a short leave of absence. While there had been a rumour that someone had spotted the teacher in one of the restricted wards at St.Mungos nothing was ever confirmed. Sirius was jubilant at his mischief making. In his mind if he were going to be stuck in class all day he might as well make a show of it. Not near the skipper as the likes of Mundungus Fletcher, Sirius held quite a respectable number of absentees. He held them with pride much like Lily Evans held each O she had received with a slightly obsessive joy.
To say Sirius expected to be skipping classes with the likes of Marlene, the Ravenclaw, who despite being friendly with the Marauders had never been one to break a good number of rules. She was kind of like the cooler version of Evans, except anyone who had an ounce of fun in their bones was cooler than their Head Girl. Sirius had to be honest, he had never pegged Marlene for much of a rule breaker even when she tried her hand at hanging with James and Sirius. She had a strong determination about her, however, which Sirius had learned to manipulate in his favour. He could encourage her to spread her wings into the unknown of troublemaking if he really set his mind to it. He knew he was a bad influence, but he couldn’t help himself. He was the guy parents warned their daughters about after all.
Sirius snorted a laugh as Marlene’s voice of reason entered the fold, “ I can hold my liquour quite well thanks, “ he said giving her a pointed look, “ I’ve had years of practice…years that you need to catch up on my friend, so drink up!”
Sirius wasn’t purposely trying to get Marlene drunk. While he had never really worked that way with girls he was interested in he couldn’t deny that it had happened a time or two in the past. However, this was not a girl he was interested in; this was Marlene. He had always thought she was a bit of a looker but Sirius’ attention span was so short it was hard for him to maintain focus. If they hadn’t gone down the friend path so quickly with the same sense of humour perhaps she would be but one of the many in his not so little black book, but that was one thing he would never really know for sure.
He had to laugh heartedly at Marlene’s response to his flirtatious banter, “Okay, whatever helps you sleep at night McKinnon, but I know deep down you’re fighting with the urge to fall deeply and madly in love with me.”
His coy grin undercut the sarcasm that laced his words. He flipped his hair from his face and gave her one of his more suggestive winks. If this made her feel uncomfortable then it would be a mission accomplished.
“The only rule you need to really know is that there are no rules. Good riddance to them! I don’t even know why they are there. I don’t follow them anyway.” He said cheekily as she seemed to respond rather well to learning the skilled art of ditching classes from him.
Again he was semi shocked that she agreed to his drinking terms. It seemed that she had thrown her inhibitions out the window for the day and decided to go big. Was this the new Marlene that was coming into herself for the new term? If so, he already liked her.
“Can’t make any promises there,” he joked, “ Because you’re about as sweet as I am innocent.” He added playfully.
He watched as she took a drink from the cup. At first she looked a bit awkward but she quickly got a handle on things. He nodded his approval and took the cup, downing his own share to make it even. He had to laugh again when she liked it. Was she really as green as she played it off to be? Why had Sirius never noticed her not drinking at parties? It was probably because he was too busy chasing women or winning at a drinking game.
“Course its good! I nicked it off of Fletcher. I swear he spends more time in a brewery than he does at Hogwarts. That kid has more liquor on him than a fat Wormt—I mean kid has sweets.”
He took another gulp and handed it back to Marlene, “Plus I have impeccable taste,” he added gleefully.
The day had so far turned out to be a rather surprising one. To say it was normal to see Sirius and Marlene ditching and drinking together in the middle of the day was absolutely crazy. While people would expect Sirius to not attend a class like History of Magic, they would probably think Marlene had come down with a terrible cold and if she continued to drink her hangover would certainly support such a rumour the next day.
“What shall I call you during these lessons? Skipping whore or Master Skip?”
“Oh ouch,” he said as he playfully pushed her shoulder, “ How about the most generous, kind, sexy, hot man who has ever graced this earth?” [/blockquote]
