Ariadne: There once was a Princess in Greek legends by the name of Ariadne. She was the daughter of King Minos, the guy the Minotaur is name after, and she fell in love with Theseus. Ariadne fell for Theseus and helped him defeat the Minotaur. The two had planned that after Theseus slayed the Minotaur (which he was not suppose to do) all the prisoners and the themselves would flee the island and never return to their unjust king. Unfortunately, after Theseus slayed the beast, he left Ariadne on the island and never looked back. While she slept on the beach waiting for him, the God Dionysus (the god of wine) saw her and fell in love. Oh look Lindsey's cooking up a plot.
Eira: Norse name for "help, mercy". Two traits that definitely define Ari.

If one were to go up and ask Great-Grandma Eira about her heritage and if she were related to any famous person, they would in fact receive the answer yes. They would then sit and listen to a long, confusing, less than accurate tale of how she is a descendent of Helga Hufflepuff. While you leave her, you will wonder if she is all she claims to be, but it's assuring to know that she in fact wrong. As much as Great-Grandma Eira would like to be related to Helga Hufflepuff and seal her blood status as important, it is just her imagination and her age hitting her. When she was raising her children she always taught them how to be prim and proper like a good wizard is suppose to. Then, when her children had children she would take those kids and make sure to spend enough time with them to leave an permanent impression.
While the Carmichaels have no blood shared with the famous Helga Hufflepuff, they do in fact come from a long line of Hufflepuffs. Unlike most, they view this as a positive thing. The terms "Loyal and Just" always being associated with their family. Add in that they're purebloods through and through, that mixes for a good sized amount of ego and bragging rights. Even Ariadne's grandfather has taken up the habits of bragging rights and acting very similar to his mummy. However, Mr. Carmichael's bad habit did not rub off on his only son. Tristan was automatically a quiet person, never crying or screaming as a baby and certainly never having the courage to ask a girl out.
Although Maria and Tristan never spoke to each other during their school years, their families were quiet close. Once the two were both out of Hogwarts and Tristan was settled in his department at the Ministry the two were arranged to be married. Maria was eager to get married and be everything her parents wanted her to be. It helped with the fact that she had no brothers to become heirs to everything her parents had and no sisters to split everything up with. As long as she did as her parents wanted her to do, she would have all of that money and treasure to herself and her children.
Unfortunately for Maria, her child was not the prim and proper young lady that her and Great-Grandmother Eira wanted. As soon as Ariadne was waddling about she became a handful. When she was not putting bandages on anything and everything (including the crup), she was pretending her toy broomstick was a fierce dragon that she had tamed. By the time she was six, she had broken more than enough vases around the house then her mother would like to admit. Tristan, however, was absolutely in love with his bundle of red haired joy. He spoiled her whenever he could and always made sure she had the best toys to play with and that the House elves made sure her room was free of any breakable items.
Once Ari had started Hogwarts, she joined the Carmichael tradition of being placed in Hufflepuff. The little girl made friends with a few in her year the moment she sat down at the table. When her third year rolled around, Ariadne was asked out by a rather cute boy in Gryffindor. The two dated from mid September all the way to winter break where Ari made the choice to spend Christmas with the boy's family. On the last night they were together, Ari gave in to temptation and slept with the boy. The next morning came with awkward silences that the boy broke while sitting in their compartment on the train. He told her the line of how it was not her but him and that they just weren't working out. Ari was left alone while the boy went in search of his friends. Since that day all boyfriends Ari has had have done the same thing almost, yet she cannot break the habit. While she would never admit it, it has taken quite a toll on her confidence.
To add to that confusion, her summers at home are less than pleasing. Her father may still adore her, but since fourth year he has been ever so busy with ministry work and has left Ari with her mother for more times than she would like. Maria does not grasp the concept of everyone being different and constantly nags Ari at how she is not the perfect pureblood daughter or how Ari obsesses with dragons too much. Her summer before her sixth year, Maria actually went through and threw out any book Ari had relating to dragons and magical creatures. She never tells her friends the issues she has with her mother and has never brought her friends over to her family's mansion during the summer. She doesn't plan on doing something like that any time soon.
So in the mean time, until she can legally live on her own and preform magic outside of school, Ari is reading only the library's books on dragons.
