-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --The day had started out as normal as any other. Andromeda woke up and took a long bath, she woke up especially early to bathe every day. Hygiene was highly important to her. After almost half an hour of being in the tub Andromeda got out and dressed, wearing her least favorite pink dress, and a simple pair of brown flat shoes. She left her hair down but clipped back some on the left side of her head, using using the flower to keep it back. She really wasn't in the mood to actually style her hair this morning, it always took too long to get ready and Andromeda was tired of being close to being late for work. After checking to make sure that she was happy with how she looked Andromeda went to grab something to eat. In the kitchen she saw that Ted was up but not dressed, "Good morning, my love" She said almost too brightly for it being so early. That was usually a sign she got a good night of sleep. 'I wonder why he's still in his night clothes?' She inquired. Then looking up at the clock Andromeda realized that he still had almost an hour before he needed to leave.
Making herself some toast Andromeda didn't feel too up for speaking that morning, which was no surprise. It was usually hard for her to keep a train of thought this early during the day. Waiting for her toast to finish up Andromeda stole a glance out the window, it looked rather muggy that day. "Do you know how the weather's supposed to be?" she asked Ted who just shrugged, looking down at a copy of The Daily Prophet. Sighing, Andromeda went back to her cooking, she could only hope that today turned out to be a nice day. She knew that if it was ugly outside then Madam Malkins might have less people coming in, which was never good. A simple flick of her wand and her toast was done. It was nicely browned, just the way she liked it. Grabbing some pumpkin juice she joined Ted at the table and started eating. She wasn't very hungry that morning, which was rather odd since Andromeda had hardly eaten anything the night before. Still, she forced herself to finish knowing that she would just end up starving later on in the day.
Having finished eating and sat there just talking to Ted about everything that she could think of at the moment, Andromeda decided that it was time to get going. She gave him a not so quick kiss goodbye and then with a resounding 'Pop' Andromeda disapparated to Diagon Alley. As she apparated in front of Madam Malkin's she saw that the older witch was already there. Andromeda knocked on one of the windows before going in, just to let Madam Malkin know that she had arrived. Going in she greeted cheerfully "Good morning, Madam Malkin. How are you today?" To which the woman responded that she was doing fine and started talking about something that had happened to her that morning. Andromeda tried to keep up, she really did, but it was rather rushed chatter. Madam Malkin finished up her talking in little to no time at all and then started giving Andromeda instructions to getting the shop ready for the day. She wanted stuff just stocked and others put away for later. With a few simple waves of her wand and the use of her perfectly capable hands Andromeda had that finished in no time.
With everything was stocked and set up Andromeda began busying herself with other things. She made sure that robes were nice and straight, Madam Malkin's hemming tools were organized and ready for use. Andromeda even made a nice little display in the window, it was sure to catch the eye of the passerby. Just as Andromeda was double checking her display Madam Malkin said she would be stepping out for a little bit, she had some things that she had to take care of and since Andromeda was going to be there, she would let her keep an eye on the shop until she returned. Andromeda saw no problem in that, "That's not a problem at all Madam, I'll handle everything while you're out." she was rather flattered that Madam Malkin would trust her with something this important. She had only been working there for a few months now. This, to her, was a little more than what she bargained for. Sure, this was no her ideal job but not being sure what she wanted to do in Hogwarts didn't leave her with much of a choice.
Soon as Madam Malkin left Andromeda conjured herself up a chair and sat down, grabbing a copy of The Daily Prophet as she did so. Reading it, Andromeda was saddened by what she was reading. It was never fun to hear about people disappearing, magical or non-magical. Such a shame not being able to live life without wondering who's next or who has already grabbed up. It made her think about Ted and worried about him at the same time, being that he was pretty much the only family she had left to worry about. Naturally she would worry about both of her sisters but being realistic she hadn't seen either of them in a while and she doubted whether they even remembered they had a third sister. Andromeda put the newspaper down and looked out the window, hoping that someone would come in and fast.

As the sun beat down upon the cobble stone streets of a busy Diagon Alley there was a sense of ending in the air. All around there were kids running about the various shops trying to get fitted for the standard black robes, find their new books, or get some new quills. Clearly summer was on its way out faster than anyone had anticipated and those last minute purchases were starting to pile up indicating the start of term was close at hand. A tall boy of seventeen strode down the cobble stone walkway with an uninterested look on his face. His broad figure, tanned for long, hot days in the sun moved stiffly through the throngs of people bustling in and out of the shops. If it wasn’t for the coy smirk dancing along his thin lips causing a distraction there would be no doubt to tell that Sirius Black was hungover…again. The slight bags under his eyes, the tenderness of his walk, and his wrinkled tee shirt was enough evidence of that, but even so he still had an air about him that seemed to hide those qualities even when he was in the worst of states.
Sirius’ summer had been one to remember, well that was assuming he could remember it all. In his defence he knew most of what happened but it was all thrown together in a mash up of memories and stories told to him the next day. To say Sirius had a bit too much fun on a daily basis was an understatement. He was like that when he was bound to the classroom so when he had free reign to do whatever he pleased all hell broke loose.
Sirius had been living at James Potter’s house for quite some time. He had walked out of his parents’ house when he could no longer take their prejudiced ways against his friends, his house, and even him. They had been brutal when he left. He had gotten some howlers that astounded the Potters, but Sirius was not surprised he knew what he had done and what the consequences were. If he was going to be honest with himself he had never really known what family was until he went and lived with James. Sure they were a small family unit but they held more love than the entire Black clan. He had no idea what he had been missing out on and for James’ parents to treat him no different than they did their own son meant the world to him. He had heard word in passing by his tauntingly cruel cousins that his mother had burned his name off of the family tapestry. He had finally escaped them. He was a Black in nothing but name.
Of course, he had not been the first to be blacklisted from his so called prestigious family. Just a few years before he had been disowned his favourite cousin Andromeda had been burned off for falling for a muggle born chap named Tonks. The two had always been close and now they were essentially all they had left.
In the spirit of family…or whatever it was Sirius and Andromeda called their little union, he turned a corner and entered Madame Malkin’s shop where his dear cousin was employed. As he opened the door the little bell rung, signalling his arrival. He saw his cousin staring dreamily out the window, the Daily Prophet lying at her fingertips on the desk in front of her.
“Excuse me miss,” Sirius said in a playfully mocking tone, “ I have been standing here for about three seconds and no one has helped me. I would like to speak to your manager…now!”
He burst out laughing as he leaned against the nearest wall not being able to avoid giving his lovely cousin a hard time. What was family for anyways?

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --Off in her own world, Andromeda hadn’t really heard the bell ring. Of course, she had heard it but it was a very dull ringing in her mind. That was why she had been so startled when she heard a male’s voice say he wanted to see her manager, or in this case, shop owner. At first, Andromeda started to say "I am so sorry, sir. I did-" but then she stopped to think about it three seconds? Confused Andromeda averted her attention to where the voice had come from. As realization dawned on her, the look of confusion changed quickly to one of slight annoyance. Her cousin was leaning against the wall. Laughing at himself, and being the only one laughing "That wasn’t funny, Sirius." Andy said, rolling her eyes a bit. She should have known, it was just the sort of thing Sirius would do. Well, should it happen again, he would be the first person she would suspect it to be. She loved her cousin, she had always favored him over Regulus, but sometimes he could be a right pain. That was just Sirius being, well… Sirius.
Figuring that she may as well look like she was doing her job, Andromeda semi-sarcastically asked her dear cousin "Can I help you with something?" she wasn’t really angry with him for startling her just moments ago. Just aggravated it was all joking with him, as usual. Still, he was practically all she had left from the Black family. Like Andromeda, Sirius had been disowned. The pair of them were disowned for their own reasons but they were both considered blood-traitors by their family and the rest of the pure-blood world. She wasn’t sure about Sirius but she carried that title with some pride, Ted was worth being called such things. It had been a few years but since the day she left Andromeda had never looked back, she only wanted to look forward. He was her future, or at least a huge part of it. Meda didn’t know when they were going to get married, but she was almost certain that they were. Everything was pointing towards it. It had to happen, it just had to.
Thinking about her future with Ted, Andromeda started to wonder when or if her cousin planned to settle down with just one person. He had a bit of a reputation that did not elude even Andromeda’s ears. Andy wanted to see her cousin stick with one woman; she was tired of hearing about his expeditions around the school. Even while she was still in school herself, news had spread like wild fire. That was the thing about Hogwarts, there was always something or someone to talk about. You could guarantee gossip sprang up often around that school. Now, Andromeda turned back to her cousin "Is there a particular reason you’re here? Or are you just bored?" she asked, watching the door for Madam Malkin, she knew that she would have to fake like she was working if the older witch was to suddenly appear. Though, she didn’t expect her back for a while.

The interior of the store was cool and fresh. The rows of shelves carrying product were neatly lined up with the various merchandise sitting neatly upon them. Not many things were out of place which indicated a slow morning. The one thing that stood out was Sirius’ dear cousin Andromeda. It was no secret that she had been cut off and disowned by her family the day she took a serious interest in the muggleborn boy Ted Tonks. Up until then Andromeda, like her sisters and cousins, had lead a privileged life where things would appear before them whenever they wanted. If it were a few years previous, everyone, including Andromeda could have never imagined to see her working in an Alley shop. She stood out amongst the store because of her looks that told a story of privilege and excess, though Andromeda was one of the most humble of all the Blacks. She was cursed with the haughty looks signature of the Black family and for that no matter how hard she tried she would never truly fit in with this new life. Sirius was about on the same page as Andromeda; out casted and thrown into a world in which he had been shielded from for much of his life.
The two had always shared a bond. Despite the fact that Sirius took a bit too much pleasure in pranking the likes of Andromeda and her sisters, growing up Sirius had always been close with Andromeda. She was his favourite cousin and even at a young age Sirius could tell they shared something unspoken in common. They were not like their family and it only took a bit of growing up to realize just how much it was that they were different. Though he would never let her know, it had been Andromeda who gave Sirius the courage to leave his family. If she could do it and be as happy as she was then it was possible for him to do it as well. He owed a lot to her and even if it was never spoken out loud she knew that he was there for her.
He pushed his dark hair out of his eyes as he heard Andromeda’s monotone voice speak as if he were actually a customer. He could not contain his giggles as she stopped herself, mid sentence, in realization.
“Wasn’t it just hilarious Annie?” he teased with another cheeky grin towards her.
Her voice was stern and professional like as she asked him if he needed help. Sirius couldn’t resist pestering her now. Pushing himself up from his leaning position against the wall he waltzed over to some of the displays of various dress robes and fabrics.
“Is this expensive?” he asked, touching a brilliantly sewn piece of clothing. He grabbed a long piece of embroidered fabric that had been sitting on a table next to the display. He flung it around himself, draping his body in a pale purple hue that seemed to oddly bring out his grey eyes, “What about this? Is it my colour?” he added as he did a little pirouette.
Sirius never minded acting like a fool at the best of times. When he was with Andromeda this was even more magnified, especially if he could annoy her for even a split second. It was the child in him that refused to grow up. He wasn’t going to change for anyone and Andromeda of all people knew this.
"Is there a particular reason you’re here? Or are you just bored?"
Sirius’ mouth fell open in a mocking astonishment. He wrapped the fabric tightly around his waist as if offended. “I am offended you think so little of me Annie! What if I was just in the neighborhood and wanted to visit the cousin that I miss oh so much!”
He could not contain his smirk as much as he couldn’t help but speak entirely in sarcasm. Picking up a pin cushion he tossed it in the air, caught it and this twisted it around in his fingers. With the fabric still draped around him he tossed it at Andromeda’s head, “ Okay...so I was a bored...and a bit hungover, but that doesn’t make my visit any less awesome does it?” he said with a raised eyebrow and another devilish grin that spoke louder than any words Sirius ever spoke.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --Black women were not supposed to work; at least that was how Andromeda grew up thinking. Her parents, more her mother, taught her that it was a woman place to stay at home and produce heirs for their husbands. Otherwise their lives were rather pointless and boring. It was thanks to her parents teaching that Andromeda hadn’t put much in store with what she wanted to do after Hogwarts, at least until her seventh year but by then it was a little too late to do what she wanted to. So now she was working at Madam Malkin’s. Madam Malkin had been very kind to Meda since her first day working for her. It wasn’t anything glamorous, or a place you would expect to find a Black working, but it was better than nothing. And it was only lasting (if and when) Andromeda had a child, then she would stay home and be a full-time mother. Speaking mothers, Meda only wished that hers could see her at that very moment. Druella would surely die of shock, or that would have been true had Andromeda not gone down the path of a blood-traitor a few years back. Not to mention, Andromeda simply looked out of place, her appearance was too striking to belong. A girl like her was definitely not made to work, yet somehow she managed to.
It was a path that many pure-bloods would die rather than go down, but Andromeda didn’t care so long as she was following her heart. Sure, there were days that she missed her sisters –the three had always been so close- but there was no going back now. Even if she could, Andromeda wouldn’t change her mind. Out of both of her cousins, Regulus had never been her first choice. He was just…too much like them, the perfect pure-blood son. No, Sirius was always the one that she got along with. In a way, Sirius was like the little brother that Andromeda never got. They were the ones who were the black sheep in their family, neither of them fit into the mold that was their family. Andromeda had gotten away from the madness before he had, yet she was still very glad that her cousin had finally broken free. He was staying with the Potters, from what he had told her after he ran away. Upon hearing that wonderfully news from her cousin, Andromeda couldn’t have been any more proud.
Sirius might have been annoying –and he always had been- growing up he was constantly pranking Andromeda and her sisters, though Bellatrix had never been too fond of it, and often got their cousin back. But, Andromeda had a lot of fun with him, it was so liberating at times. He was so carefree, reckless. There was never a dull moment whilst he was around. Still, Andromeda couldn’t remember just how many times his parents got onto him about his behavior not being fit for a wizard of his stature. There were too many incidents, all of which had Andromeda laughing for weeks. Meda should have known better than to act serious, since Sirius would make a joke out of it. When he started to mess with the displays she had set up for the day, she started to protest as he draped some fabric around himself and asked her if it was his color "Sadly, it does." and it was the truth, perfect for his eyes "Now put it back, Sirius. That display took me a while to figure out." she said, a small smile on her face for his playful attitude. She wasn’t too worried about the display; it wasn’t something magic couldn’t easily fix. Andromeda just really wanted a reason to get on her cousin, and the display was the closest thing she had at the moment.
Childlike, that’s what Sirius was. He was sixteen yet here he was, acting as if he was eight years old again. It made Andromeda wonder if her cousin was ever going to grow up. But she knew it was all in good fun, so she wasn’t about to give him too hard a time about it. And she pretty much figured that he had just escaped one mother, surely he didn’t need another one. Besides, Andromeda was not fool enough to believe that she could change Sirius herself, not even for a solitary moment. Her cousin joked more by stating he was just “stopping by for a visit” which Andromeda didn’t buy, she had grown up with him long enough to know better "Anyone else’s cousin can come by to visit. But you, Sirius Black, you have to be up to something." she said, though it wasn’t exactly accusatory, just stating the truth. You didn’t grow up with a cousin like Sirius and not know better. Worried that Madam Malkin would come in and see Sirius with the fabric wrapped around him, Andromeda checked out the window to see if the elderly witch was within her seeing range, she wasn’t. The last thing she needed was to get in trouble for her cousin’s foolishness; it would take an imbecile to not know that the two Black’s were indeed related.
Andromeda watched, wearily as Sirius picked up a pin cushion from nearby, tossed and caught it. The next thing Meda knew, it was hurtling at her head. Instinctively she ducked and it hit the wall behind her "Sirius!" she exclaimed "If you break anything, or get me fired, I promise I’ll hex you into next month." She threatened, not joking with him. Meda would do a lot of things for him, but losing her job was not on that list. Sirius went on to talk about how he was bored and hung over, which Andromeda didn’t find at all surprising. Her cousin was still wrapped in the fabric to which Andromeda tried not to roll her eyes, it wasn’t proper and just a habit Andromeda never really got into. Sirius asked if that made his any different "Well, that depends, how long do you plan on irritating me? " she asked, tapping the tip of her wand on her knee by this point, wanting desperately to re-rearrange the fabric that Sirius was, obviously, fascinated by.

The purple fabric that draped over Sirius’ figure was oddly becoming. He sat there, wrapped in the rolls of fabric that he had nearly destroyed in his quest to make Andromeda’s morning a bit harder than it needed to be. It was as if he had forgotten that he was still within the confines of the barely touched linens. If only Madam Malkin walked in at that very moment she was sure to have a heart attack. Sirius found himself smirking at the thought. At least he would have a nice laugh. The consequences of his actions, such as Andromeda’s job security did not even pass through his mind as he lived so much in the moment that thinking too much ahead was not in his nature. He heard Andromeda tell him to put the fabric back but he ignored it. Instead of listening like he knew he should the devilish smirk grew wider on his face. He folded his arms across his chest from under the fabric, making himself more cocooned within the material than ever before. The quiet and peaceful morning Andromeda had been in the middle of was now a distant memory as Sirius Black was ready to wreak havoc over his cousin’s place of business.
"Anyone else’s cousin can come by to visit. But you, Sirius Black, you have to be up to something."
Sirius shook his head to keep himself from laughing too hard. Andromeda knew him far too well. Sirius was always and probably would always be up to something. He got too bored too easily to not have something mischievous on the go. When he had been at home he had resented it. He had spent countless hours thinking of new ways to make his parents and brother annoyed to the point of kicking him out. He had done far too many pranks to keep track at to those three but in the end they had done far worse things to Sirius. He had lost out on parts of his childhood that his parents had thought to be unbecoming of a pureblooded boy. He had been forced to think and say things that he did not believe in. In many ways, he had been a prisoner in his own home. Perhaps that was why Sirius found such great refuge in Hogwarts. He had the freedom he never had when at home.
This summer had been different. He had been with the Potters and for the first time he had complete and utter freedom. While the pranks were still high in number there was no bitterness to them. Sirius was really happy even when he wasn’t within the confines of the school. Perhaps this was why Andromeda always seemed to have a bit of a glow to her even when her situation from the outside looked less than desirable. Despite the fact she was working at what some would say a low scale job, she was free to make her own choices and that was something she had been shielded from for much of her life.
“Up to something eh?” he said, mulling over her words in his head, “ I could be…”
He walked over to a counter displaying swatches of colours. He hopped up onto it with ease, despite the fact he was still wrapped in the expensive fabric from the window. He touched some more merchandise and looked over to Andromeda with an knowing smirk.
“Or I could, like I said, just be here visiting you,” his said smiling, “ Because you are my favourite cousin and all.”
Technically she was his only cousin at the moment. He wasn’t exactly on speaking terms with his other family and from what he had heard his mother had burned his name clear off the family tapestry right after he left. That was the Black way of letting someone go---except with family it was worse because they were supposed to be the ones who would never consider losing a person. Family, in the sense that most people were familiar with, was not a familiar term for the Blacks.
Sirius had laughed heartily when the pin cushion had hit Andromeda. She had screeched his name like he had heard so many times before. He didn’t mean to be irritating…okay, yes he did. It was hilarious to him, especially when he was pestering family. It was a pity that Andromeda was the only family he had left.
“Oh, I plan on irritating you for the rest of your life,” he said with a nod, “ How long do you plan on staying here before you take me to get some food?” he asked, prompting her to ditch out on work.
Even though she was older, Sirius had a way of being a bad influence. It was a talent he prized himself in. He just wondered if Andromeda had learned to not take the bait over all these years.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --When Sirius didn’t leave the material alone, Andromeda sighed in irritation with her favorite cousin. Talking to him was useless, as usual. It seemed that the boy would always do whatever he wanted to at that moment. And right now, it seemed that bugging her was his number one priority. Andy wanted a normal morning to stay that way, what she hadn’t counted on her was cousin coming along and causing trouble for her. Though, she should have factored that in. Staring at his arms crossed over his chest, Andromeda fought the temptation to have them stuck like that with the simple swish of her wand. It was a very very tempting though but it was also something she would have done when they were children. Now, they were very clearly, not children anymore. A voice in her mind screamed at him to grow up, Andy wanted very desperately to voice this opinion. But there was no doubt in her mind that her dearest cousin would forever remain young spirited. That could be a good and bad thing, but such was Sirius. He was both a blessing and a curse at times. Still, no matter how much he got under her skin, Andromeda wouldn’t trade him for the world.
She glared, probably unsuccessfully, as Sirius shook his head. The boy was just so infuriating at times. Some days his antics were entertaining, but that was when they were directed at someone else other than her. Andromeda doubted she would ever forget the countless pranks that he would play on her and her sisters. Not that they hadn’t gotten him back just as good, if not even better than he had. When the three put their heads together, they had been an unbeatable force. Whatever Sirius threw at them, they gave back. It was all in good fun, it was what cousins did. And those were the only moments where they were able to act like normal children; their parents weren’t around to stop them. Meda could not get Walburga’s shrill shouting at her for getting her best dress dirty one afternoon. They were supposed to be acting like proper pure-blood children were meant to, yet Andromeda had been running when she fell and messed her white dress up. Her father had not been pleased to say the least. It was such a shame the way they were raised, if you could even call it that. There were days where Andromeda felt more like she was being bred versus her parents actually doing any raising.
Pushing the memories far from her mind, Andromeda gratefully accepted that her life was different now. Freedom was sweet, and while she still had some adjusting to do, she knew it was better off this way. She was just thankful to finally have Sirius back to being an irritatingly present figure in her new life. To say the least, the two of them had always been the white sheep in a black family. They simply didn’t belong. And now, it seemed, they were getting the chance to lead the lives that they were meant to, at long last. For once in her life, Andromeda wasn’t being told where to be, how to dress, who to and not to speak with. But the best part of it all, she was free to LOVE whoever she fell in love with. Her life was her own to live; no one could tell her to live it anymore. It was a liberating feeling, this freedom. In the time she spent far from where she used to be, Meda had taken full advantage of her liberty. Sirius brought her out of her musings by saying that he could be up to something. Meda knew him long enough to know that could be usually meant that he was. Now her only question was what was he up to? Besides, obviously, possibly causing her to lose the one job she had at the time being.
When Sirius hopped onto the counter, still wrapped in the material, Andromeda waved her wand and the table started to shake. Meda was going for forcing him to get down and act like he had some sense in his head. She would think it a plus if he was to lose his balance in the process.
Staring at her cousin intently, Andromeda asked "Do you take me for a fool? " after he told her that he could just be visiting her. That was usually never the case with him, at least not with how early it was, and especially not since she was working. Meda wasn’t going to push it anymore than that but she definitely had a close watch on him, waiting for him to go too far. Any reason to get him back for whatever he had been planning. The pincushion wasn’t the most comfortable thing to be hit with but it definitely wasn’t the hardest thing she had ever been hit with. Andromeda had half a mind to throw it back at him, but she had to remind herself of where she was, and of how childish that would be. Now, if they were somewhere a little more discreet she wouldn’t have had second thoughts before she threw it back. That would have been normal for these two in particular.
After Sirius told her that he planned on irritating her for the duration of her life, Andromeda glared at her cousin "You are possibly the worst cousin a person can have. " she told him jokingly, in honesty he was probably the best cousin a person could ever imagine having. He was certainly the type to have your back when you needed him, and he was always a laugh. He then asked her how long she planned on staying there before they went to eat. Typical Sirius, Andromeda though. "As soon as Madam Malkin comes back. I hope it’s soon, " she admitted, looking at the clock. She was feeling rather hungry already but she wasn’t about to just take off before her return "Besides, who said I was taking you anywhere? " She asked, not about to allow him to influence her into being irresponsible. Andromeda could not afford to lose this job right now. At least, not until Ted could hopefully find something a little more stable. Reckless and irresponsible would not be good for either of them at the moment.
